|Something different this time from me besides landscapes.|
Besides photographing beautiful landscapes, I also like to visite Zoo's. This one I took in Blijdorp Zoo in Rotterdam. There is a pond where there are lots of ducks, among them this marbled duck.
This one was very still and it had a nice reflection in the water. so I took this shot of it.
The water looks grey because is was not very sunny that day, but I still think it came out alright.
Here's what I found out about the marbled duck:
The Marbled Duck, or Marbled Teal (Marmaronetta angustirostris), is a medium-sized dabbling duck.
The Marbled Duck is approximately 39-42 cm long. Adults are a pale sandy-brown colour, diffusely blotched off-white, with a dark eye-patch and shaggy head. Juveniles are similar but with more off-white blotches. In flight, the wings look pale without a marked pattern, and no speculum on the secondaries.
These are gregarious birds, at times even when nesting. Outside the breeding season flocks are often small, although large wintering flocks have been reported in some areas.
These birds feed mainly in shallow water by dabbling or up-ending, occasionally diving.

I like this image, it gives such a feeling of peace and quiet!
No ripples on the water and the ducky is completely still on the water, not often to see that...
Lovely details, good colours!
Bonita imagen esta que has captado. El pato estaba dormitando y el agua no se movía.
Preciosos detalles y colorido.
Loved your highly informative notes.
The duck really looks great.
Love the reflection.
Such PEACE & TRANQUILITY captured on camera.
You could have titled it so.
Nel, Your "Something different this time from me besides landscapes." made me laugh, for I asked 'adanac' for something different too! Viz. for a landscape, as he is predisposed to animal shots...
I do like to see variety from a contributor! So I picked this one to respond.
I like it a lot, because there is no evidence whatever that you shot in the Blijdorp Zoo < unlike other photos I have seen >.
The fact that you shot is under mild light I believe helps
by not washing out colours or detail! Amazing smoothness of the water too. The duck seems close to "turtling"...
See U on the Trek!
