Banded Dotterel
Charadrius bicinctus)

Banded Dotterel is a fairly widespread species in Southern regions of New Zealand, although not quite so common in Northern districts.
It is a smallish bird (18 cm) that nests on lake and river shores, and occassionally on beaches.
The eggs are dark grey, speckled with black, and extremely well camouflaged against sand and gravel.
Later I will post a photo of this one pretending to have a broken wing.
Hope you like it.

Hi Steve

What a nice looking little birdy :)
Very well seen and capture considering the similar colors!
I really like the sharpness, the low POV, the great DOF and the framing. Also the very nice framing adds to the overall beautiful composition.

Bravo and TFS

HI Steve,
Nice shot of this little guy.
Nice texture with the pebbles on the ground and the bird in its natural setting.

Hi Steve, you have a little beauty here. She has beautiful colours and I can see how easy she can fade into the land. Good composition, nice and sharp too. TFS

Hello Steve

A nice capture of this bird.It looks very similar to some plovers we have here.I like the natural surroundings ,it looks windswept. Good on the DOF and sharpness of detail.Nicely composed .TFS

Hello Steve,
I love these little waders and you've captured this one so well! Really sharp shot and it is still nicely camouflaged amongst the pebbles.
I wonder if this is also called a double-banded Plover?
TFS, Ulla
