[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Clossiana titania (?)(Nymphalidae Argynninae) it is a strikingly large fritillary for the genus and has a bold flight.
The upperside is well marked, with what look like a row of little chess pawns on the hindwing. The underside image is missing for me, so this ID is no certanly correct. I showed it to my friend cosmin , but each one ask me for underside image.
The butterfly usually has its wings flat out in the sun , pudic like a mimosa. However, when the weather is cooler or towards evening the butterfly rests conspicuously on plants with the wings folded above the back (so i read) in fact, when the clouds come over it is quite fun to survey the vegetation and see how many you can pick out.

Hola Amigo, que bella imagen, es excelente la compo. y bello bg, la luz es perfecta... saludos

Bonita mariposa. Bellos colores un fondo estupendo y una composición ideal.
Saludos, JL.

Hi Parvulescu

I like the diagonal placement of the butterfly. Nice colours and the sharpness and clarity are very good. TFS.

Hi
Nice photo. I like the composition and colors. I am wondering about your ID problem. Titania is rare and local in Europe. In Romania there are also only few locations. How big it was? My first impression was that it is B. selene. But I can only guess here. Maybe we can exclude some species. I think it is not B. dia. So we stay with titania, selene and euphrosyne :-)
Best wishes
Krzysztof

Hi Lucian,
Excellent shot of this butterfly. I like also the green background. Not easy to distinguish all these Bolorias and Melitaeas.
Best regards
Anne

Salut Lucian

Ricardo

Very beautiful macro Lucian with aesthetic point of view and appropriate framing conforming an excellent composition.
A wide DOF offers focus on the entirety of the butterfly, with soft and natural colors, due to the appropriate control of the light, great sharpness and perfect diffuse bottom.
A great post... thank you for sharing.
Regards and my best wishes... Ricardo

Hello Lucian!
Very interesting species with nice, saturated colours. POV allow to see the upper side of wings but as I noted from post by cataclysta, it is not enough to be sure ID :)
Anyway, I would suggest to use nome noise reduction and maybe a little better DOF :)
Best greetings,
Radomir

Hello Lucian,
I like very much the colour contrast here as well as the clear diagonal composition. Very effective shot.
Best greetings,
Michal

Hello Lucian,
a beautiful, well detailed, strikingly well composed butterfly portrait. The blue iridescence of wings at the lower right looks particularly interesting. I would vote for Clossiana titania ssp. cypris (Meigen, 1828), an attractive and rare mountain species which is also reported from Transsilvania at elevations beween 800-1600m. But without seeing the undersides of wings, there might also be a probability for Clossiana selene.
Pretty picture of a pretty - and obviously rare - species. Thank you! With best regards,
Peter

Happy New Year!
