A few weeks ago I spotted some yellow ladybirds in my favourite field but I didn't have the right lens with me so yesterday I decided to go back and take some pictures. When I got to my field I found that winter had finally hit and all the vegetation had begun to die off. Of course my ladybirds had gone. At first I thought that there was nothing for me to take. After a little wander around the dying vegetation started to look quite attractive. I found that they produced some interesting shapes and colour tones.

The title of this picture "On Death and Dying" is taken from a book by Elizabeth Kubler-Ross and that book laid down the stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance

This theory has now been shortened and applied to all stages of loss. The stages of loss are denial, anger, depression, acceptance (DADA). My trip to the field with the loss of summer took me through these stages:

Denial - the ladybirds must be around here somewhere
Anger - I can't believe I didn't take the pictures when I could
Depression - there is nothing for me to take
Acceptance - hmmm those dying ferns look attractive...

A bit of a strange post from me today but it is all part of nature and I hope you find something attractive in the dying plants like I did.

Hi Karan,
There is lots of beauty in these dead plants. Colors and shapes are lovely. Attraction lies in the observer's eye and it isn't difficult to find lots of beautiful aspects in any Nature manifestation!

Hi Karan

What an impressively bold, original and unique post!
I LOVE IT! I also like the note very much!
What better way to present the comming of winter than looking at the small things - it is them that make all the difference in life (in any field or domain), so...great idea!
The details look stunning and the composition(s) are fascinating.

Hi Karen
Very artistic presentation of this assemblage. It is a graet idea to mention Elisabeth Kubler-Ross. I think this picture suits well to her thinking.
Best regards

Hello Karan,
Again a beautiful collage, exposing the beauty of subject multiplied!
Excellent details in all images, and montage adds an extra effect...
Additional work, but it pays off if you know what to do!

Hello karan !
Winter is here now, and there are only dead or dying plants left... but they have their own kind of beauty, as you show it with this beautiful picture. I like the composition with 3 pictures in one, and the colors are natural and beautiful too. very well done !
Valerie.

Hello Karan,

Beautifull..... simply beautifull. Added to my favotite photos. Very well done.

Hi Karan

Winter?! Its very definately summer where I am. Its half past nine in the evenining now and its about 26 degrees celsius. And humid. Gmf.

Very nice artistic picture. I like it very much. The sepia and B&W combination works well. Interesting details and well composed all. were this one mine, I would have printed and framed it.

And Kubler-Ross? :) Apt comparison. I think you have the original 5 stages of grief though: Possibly, "hmmm those dying ferns look attractive..." is bargaining rather than acceptance, with acceptance having come only once you pressed the shutter.

Thanks for sharing and regards.

Hi Karan,
Were you allowed to use this lens, or is it also waiting for x-mas? That looks like a perfect lens for your macro work. It actually is, since this is really stunning. Those colors and the shallow DOF is just wonderful. Such great clarity and details with such beautiful light. This is really making art out of nature.
TFS,
Niek
