Hi all, i'm back!Been to Blankenberge, at the belgian coast, this week. There i visited the serpentarium, there are alot of reptiles, frogs, spiders and scorpios.so you can aspect alot of pics! The animals are realy taken good care off, the natural habitat is realy well imitated. It's very interesting to visit, you can take a look at the site if you want.www.serpentarium.be

PP: brightness-contrast,selective colour,resized

this is a 'waxy monky frog', or a lemuurkikker in dutch the latin name is Phyllomedusa sauvagi.

I didn't use flash and tripod, the animals were behind glas so i practicly hold the camera against the glas to prevent reflections.hope you like it!

Phyllomedusa sauvagi

Length: 7- 9 cm
Number of species: 1
Family: Hyldae

This frog has developed a special methode to survive in extreme circumstances. He rubs his waxy substance that prevents his bodymoisture to evaporate over its skin.He also filters the moisture out of itís urine before he divides it.
At daytime this frog sits motionless on branches, hidden in leaves. He gets active when the night falls.
He walks around on his front and back legs seariching for water and food.He only jumps like an ordinary frog when he is in danger.

The Female grows a little bit bigger than the male
While matingseason the male makes a lurecall. The mating and leighing of the eggs takes place at night,at the start of a short rain season.

The waxy monky frog can be found in Gran Chaco in South-Amerika.The is a very dry and hot forrest. It lays in a part of Paraguay,Southeast-bolivia and northwest argentinia.

The food of the waxy monky frog mainly excists from several numbers of insects

it is so cute..

colors; sharpness and the frog are so beautiful ;)

What a wonderful shot. This is something I have never seen before. I love the colors you have given us here and the clarity. But, the subject! Simply awesome. I almost want to whisper my comments so as not to wake the little fellow up. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.

Kirsten, you posted a gorgeous photo! IMO, very good composition, POV, DOF, color management (contrast between the frog and its red "bed"), and detailed, useful note. Focus seems a bit soft; I think you had room for increasing the f-stop a bit. Nonetheless, a relishing image. Thanks for posting. Did you do any post-treatment?

Kirsten, Great colors & I really like the pose/position of this frog on the plant..looks like a good fit! Very good note. Well done!!

Hallo Kirsten,
Even in het Nederlands.

He looks very cosy, I would give him another five minutes before getting him up. Very nice work Kirsten. I would be tempted to crop a little off the top. Good work.

Any comment will largely be appreciated.

Thankx a lot.

Very cute Kirsten.
Colourful with good details of the tired frog.
Good POV and composition too.
Very well done.

Het glas zien we niet, wel de luie kikker, die hier op het blad ligt. Mooi genomen, hij staat er goed op !
De prins.....

Very lazy frog you captured here Kirsten - I am sure you had plenty of time to get this shot;-). Very nice colours and great sharpness and I really like the relaxed attitude. Very informative note too.

Funny shot, and nice colours. But subject too centred (for me). Very good note.
Well done.

Nice shot and funny. Congratulations!

Hi, Kirsten, you did a very great job here. The shot is cool, funny and colorful. Nice POV and composition.

I missed that one, Kirsten. Very cute shot of this little critter. Frogs are endangered in many parts of the world due to urbanisation. You've got this one very well, using this colored leaf as a display unit :-). Very well done wihout flash and thru a glass.

schitterende grappige foto.

This is not a Waxy Monkey Tree Frog(Phyllomedusa sauvagi) but an Asian Gliding Tree Frog (It is either Rhacophorus nigropalamatus or Rhacophorus reinwardtii) The frog is from south east Asia. The pupils on p.sauvagi are vertical while on any of the species of rhacophorus they appear horizontal. I noticed on your other submissions picture 25 is an actual Waxy Monkey Tree Frog. Paul :)

This is a nice picture, it feels so relax. I like the lighting and the exposure. And I also love the color contrast. Without it, the frog would disappear in the background. TFS
