The Tailed Jay (Graphium agamemnon) is a predominantly green and black tropical butterfly that belongs to the swallowtail family.

The butterfly is also called Green Spotted Triangle, Tailed Green Jay or the Green Triangle.

It is a common, non-threatened species native to India, Sri Lanka through Southeast Asia and into Australia. Several geographic races are recognized.

Strong and restless fliers, they are very active butterflies and flutter their wings constantly even when at flowers.

They are seldom seen drinking from damp patches. The males are particularly fond of feeding from flowers such as Lantana, Ixora, Mussaenda and Poinsettia.

The females are more likely caught when looking for foodplants or laying eggs.

Tailed Jays are active throughout the year but their abundance depends upon the local monsoon and availability of the larval host plants.

The butterflies generally fly among the tree-tops but descend to ground level in search of flowers or host plants. Because of their relatively fast life cycle (just over one month from egg to adult), Tailed Jays are multivoltine and may produce up to 7–8 broods per year.

Hello Pankaj,
Another good one in the series, although I wonder if the use of Neat Image has 'flattened' it and almost removed the unsharp parts to overemphasize the rest?
Otherwise this is well composed and well presented.
TFS, best wishes, Ivan

Nice shot I like the light background contrasts nicely great composition and DOF is perfect. Good colours and sharpness. rgds Necip.

This is a lovely photograph Pankaj. I love the rich color and the sharpness of the details. I find the shadowed text and frame a little distracting...but then I have some vision issues. I might have been tempted to clone out the tip of the bud on the lower right side.

This butterfly is new to me, Pankaj.
A well composed shot (once again on your marigolds!) which captures the profile view of this butterfly very well.
You have used the ambient light to good advantage, giving the flower in particular a three-dimensional look.
Well done!

Hi Pankaj,
A marvellous composition for this picture. I like the way you bring the green button on the left in the picture and make a colour-balance with the butterfly's wings. Nice colour-combination also with the colour of the flower.
Anne

Hello Pankaj,
There you are with another good shot. The compostion is best with BF standing. Its really a rare one. Also this butterfly is very hard to capture as its very 'Chanchal'.Good work.
