Fantastic note. I was on Crimea and didn't know that I can meet vulture! Very sad and true note my friend. Photo is just superb. I love this POV with really lordly and proud look of this bird. Most people don't like vultures. Not me. I think this is beautifull bird. Thanks for this very interesting post!

Quite familiar to me this guy..
But it is has to be said that your portrait is technically very well done as you managed to determine the appropriate depth of field precisely.
What is amazing is that you had a lot of light here; I mean using such a great combination of aperture/shutter speed. Impossible during an ordinary winter day for my poor sensor to deliver such stuff.
Congrats...happy you did the job so well!

I have seen these vultures this autumn, in a zoo, they are really impressive, and so beautiful ! So sad to read that they are threatened - like so many other animals... The discussion here is probably an endless one. Just like i've told Annick, the situation with the zoo from my town is horrible and i would have difficulties taking a decent shot of a horse :p
I think in the end it's all about what one likes to take photos of: some like to explore all the animals from the wild and maybe even take some landscapes, wjile some love to take photos of animals that they can only find in zoos or nature parks. No big deal :)

Anyway, this vulture portrait is magnificent!
The level of details here is impressive, the exposure is really well managed here and the natural colors are a blast! Also teh POV is excellent, the DOF is impeccable and it work great in isolating the subject from that lovely BG.
Wonderfully composed, as well!

Those notes are really interesting. I noticed that here, I often see crows attacking Turkey Vultures. I took a picture of it when it was happening in the sky over my house. Unfortunately the picture is not very good and I didn't publish it on TN but it was very impressive to see with this army of crows chasing this poor bird...


This is a very sophisticated portrait of this vulture. Everything is perfect about it. Details, POV, composition, color, sharpness, DOF and the BG is awesome! This is really well done with excellent notes. Thanks,

I agree so much with your so wise words! I'm very happy that you took the time to take that so nice picture and put it here on TN! Details of the feathers are awesome!
