[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Puss moth caterpillar (Cerura vinula; Grosser Gabelschwanz; Grande queue fourchue) is a nice example of camouflage called in german "Gestaltauflösung" or body dissolution. The 2 cm animal occurs all over Europe on poplar trees. This one is from Pfynwald, Valais, Switzerland.
I took the shot ages ago on Agfa film. The flash lighting was from the left, this makes the transparent skin shine. The slide was scanned, the pic cleaned from impurities in the background, sharpened and the contrast enhanced.
That is the improved version of a slide I presented before: Howard (marhowie) did a workshop on it. He basically deblurred the background. Thanks, Howard.

Hello Dietrich
A curious and really beautiful caterpillar you show us. The shot is very good with wonderful color and nice composition.
Well done.
Best wishes

assez spéciale cette chenille, les couleurs sont un peu trop vives et on distingue pas tres bien la ^tete de la queue, cela reste un sujet accetable
amitiès et merci

Hi Dietrich ,
nice focus and beautiful colors.
thanks for sharing

Hello Dietrich.
Yes, I like this version better :)
The subject is well islotated in the frame, and a good job of cleaning it up. I like the bold green/yellow/black of this caterpillar. A great post & example of natures camouflage..
Well done.

This old slide really looks great, Dietrich!
The fact that you have scanned and done other pp work on it is unnoticable, making it look like a good digital shot with all the necessary qualities of a good presentation of a Puss-moth caterpillar.
Well done and TFS,

Quelle forme étonnante.
Bonne journée.

Guten Abend, Dietrich.

Hi Dietrich,

This is a good picture. You have captured the caterpillar really well, and I like it.

Well done and TFS.

Hi Dietrich!
You have captured a very interesting and beautiful bug. Nice expressive colours and details good lighting POV. I like your cropping and composition. Very nice work. My compliments and TFS.

This is an amazing shot. Colors so brilliant and wonderful details so that we can all look at the legs (and prolegs) and skin. I can picture this little guy just moving along on that leaf. I love it.
