It's a very busy time for me again, so please forgive me not commenting too much... I'll get better in few days.

In this short moment of spare time I looked back in my early digital days. A trekking in Bulgaria, summer 2003. Spending a night at the entrance to Rabisha Cave
(I pictured the cave once on TN - you may see it here).

We came there late evening and slept on a platform at front of the ticket office, to enter the cave in the morning. The night was very warm, as usually in July in Bulgaria. There was a very bright light attached to the wall of the building, which attracted thousands of insects. We had some entomological harvest there (see other posts here, and here), and a great fun as well. In this workshop you may see our joyfull camp that night - the first guy from the left is Krzysztof (cataclysta).

And last but not least, the pictured moth is:

Thetidia smaragdaria (Fabricius, 1787) - Essex Emerald
Family: Geometridae

It's a species occuring in entire Europe in all kind of dry meadows, fallows and grassy slopes. The larvae feed on various plant species including Achillea millefolium, Artemisia absinthium, Tanacetum vulgare, and Seriphidium maritimum. They are very well camouflaged, attaching pieces of the foodplant to their bodies.
The adults fly in June and July in a single generation.

By the way, the title of this post is also a title of Pink Floyd (my favourite band) song, from album "More" (1969) - a soundtrack for movie of the same title by Barbet Schroeder.

"Green Is The Colour"

Heavy hung the canopy of blue
Shade my eyes and I can see you
White is the light that shines through the dress that you wore

She lay in the shadow of the wave
Hazy were the visions overplayed
Sunlight on her eyes but moonshine made her blind everytime

Green is the colour of her kind
Quickness of the eye deceives the mind
Envy is the bond between the hopeful and the damned

Hi Michal

What a beautifully coloured moth. I cannot recall that I’ve ever seen this moth before and the only green moth I can remember is the big lunar moth. So thanks for introducing me to this one.

Your composition looks fine with the rough wall of the building forming a nice BG that aided in enhancing the insect. The colour, contrasts, and lighting is fine, but I think it could be improved upon by reducing the brightness just a little bit, as can be seen by Pablo’s workshop. The details are very sharp and all aspects of the subject can be seen very clearly.

Good work and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Pozdrawiam
Krzysiek

Hello Michal,
Very interesting picture of this green moth.
So good the POV used to show their color and structure.
I like the angle of the mot and the composition used.
Congratulations and best regards,
JM

Witam!
Pozdrawiam,
RJ

Hello Michal,
That's a very beautiful moth you've captured here, nice details and lovely colour. A bit bright due to the flash light but that was obviously necessary. Interesting!
TFS and regards, Ulla

bonjour michal
legerement OE mais a voir les antennes c'est un papillon nocture et c'est rare de les avoir avec une aussi belle couleur.

Hi Michel, this is a brilliant colour for the moth. Good show here, as we can see him clearly and full on.

And I like your WS - you wouldn't get me sleeping out there with all those moths flying aorund!!

In NZ we have a big green moth called the Puriri Moth / Aenetus virescens - check it out - it used to scare me very badly as a child - but we hardly see them now. The do a lot of damage to teh Puriri tree eating away at the bark...

Hi Cedryk!
I never saw a green butterfly, I hope to see one someday, this one looks very nice, I see it's male and very colourful one, great details and POV!
