|Minolta DiMAGE Z1|
focal length 58 mm
I took this a couple of years ago while out fishing. Of all the species of geese I think Canada Geese are the most beautiful, almost swan-like in their elegance. Being American, I was surprised, when I moved to England, to find such large numbers of Canada Geese here. Apparently they were brought here not long after the Americas were colonized and have happily settled into, and populated, the English countryside.
This is one of those photos that just happened while I was clicking away, hoping for something just that bit better. A dip of the head and a finger press resulted in one of my favorite photos. I'm particularly fond of reflections in water, so this shot really works for me. It was early evening on a Spring day, around 18h30, the light was just right.
Water fowl are a great way to get into wildlife photography. Almost everyone has a pond or lake near them that will have, at the very least, some ducks. A little patience, visiting at different times of the day and taking photos, and you will soon learn which times of day the light is best for good results.
My little Minolta is nice, but does have a lot of "noise". Rather than sacrifice any sharpness I chose not to "remove" the noise when editing the picture. Using Paint Shop Pro Photo XI, I adjusted the brightness and contrast levels using a white point and then ran it through the "clarify" feature at strength 1.0.
I suspect that my monitor's brightness (or lack there of) may result in my adjustments not being for the best. One of these days I will have a print made from the original and the edited version and see what the differences are. Any feedback regarding contrast and brightness would be appreciated.

Welcome to TN! This is true that it seems that Canada Goose are more numerous in England than here as most of the pictures of them I see on TN come from UK :) This is very funny. Brightness seems OK to me. I like this great reflection you caught and yes, lighting was nice that day. I don't feel the noise removal in the picture so I guess you did a good job as details are still pretty sharp. In my personal taste, I would have preferred to see its eye but is a personal way of seeing things. Thanks and I hope that you'll enjoy this site. Thanks,
Belle photo et beau reflet dans cette eau calme,je trouve que les détails sont nets et bien marquer. Amicalement Thomas
