Yesterday I presented some iceclifs from W Spitsbergen so today maybe something “warmer” ;>

The Muddy Volcanoes or Vulcanii noroiosi, is an amazing geological nature reserve (about 30 ha) localized in the small village Vulcanii noroiosi near Berca in Buzau county (SE Romania). This area is a part of Carpathians Moutains named Subcarpatii de Curbura.

But why Vulcanii noroiosi are so interesting?

At first they are not “normal” volcanoes. You can not see there any lava. There is no fire, no smoke... :> The only eruptions which you can observe are eruptions of mud. Also the temperature of this mud is not high, usually only about 30C.
From time to time you can see how the huge muddy bleb is spliting and the river of mud flow down the hills. As a results of these eruptions small muddy “craters” appear everywhere. Thanks to all these factors this area is more similar to moon landscapes than to Balkan sceneries.

There is no place like this in the whole Europe even if other “types” of volcanoes are present on this continent. And this is really amazing!!! :>

Moreover, the muddy volcanoes are surrouded by extensive steppes overgrow by e.g. Feather grass (Stipa spp.), and in salty areas also by glasswort (Salicornia sp.) From time to time you can see some European bee-eaters (Merops apiaster) or European rollers (Coracias garrulus) hunting for the insects. There is a lot of lizards, mantids, dragonflies, beetles...

Here on the photo you can see one of the “craters”, just a few minutes after muddy erupsion.
I hope that you will like it :)

Hej
Pozdrawiam
Ania
P.S. Trzeba było w workshopie pokazać jakieś zblizenie samego krateru.

I love the composition, however the foreground is too dark. I have done a workshop to address this issue. TFS

Cheers
Wes

Hi Radomir

This is simply fantastic!!!
I've always wanted to see these with my own eyes by never really got to it...darn :(
I'm glad you did and also that you've experienced such a great eruption, so that now you can present it to all of us!
This is truely a remarcable photo, capturing the essence (literary and figuratively) of these unique mud-volcanos.
The details here in the FG are terrific and the sky above creates such a superb contrast - dark/light, monochrome/vivid and lovely colors - that the resulting composition is a bliss!
I really love the framing and the presentation, too.

What can i say... a FAVORITE!

Bravo, my friend and thank you for sharing and showing me the part of my own country that i'm still to visit!

Czesc,
Serdecznosci,
Michal

Hello Radomir,
Well, so I believe we are gonna have great times with your postcards from Romania series!
I like so much this presentation, the POV is so good, and also the way you managed to compose the pciture.
The light at that time of the day was fantastic.
The story about the volcano and the mud is very interesting and informative.
Congratulations, thanks for share and my best regards,
JM
