This photo was done on another cöld day. [ A blöödy cöld day! ]
But it explains "Mon pays, c'est l'hiver"...

Almost all the seawater in this arm of Indian Harbour was frozen.
The part that is not is because of the runoff
from the brook that empties into Long Cove.

It was a bleak day. We are looking westward here.
The spot where I took this is just below Yellow Hill.

"Blow blow, thou winter wind
Thou art not so unkind
As his ingratitude;
Thy tooth is not so keen,
Because thou art not seen,
Although thy breath be rude."

"Freeze, freeze, thou bitter sky,
Thou dost not bite so nigh
As benefits forgot;
Though thou the waters warp,
Thy sting is not so sharp
As friend remembered not."

[ Adapted by Thoreau from "Blow, Blow, Thou Winter Wind" by William Shakespeare ]

Hi Jay,
So you'll be happy to know WE now have winter HERE #$%%^&&**(()*&%$%$# ok so we've been lucky and I shouldn't complain. Now with the weather report out of the way. Nice cool looking landscape and a seagull to boot, thanks for sharing.

Hi J

Ha-ha-ha, how considerate of you or were you merely playing it safe in case I might consider a workshop again? However, in future that would probably not be possible anymore, now would it? I just hope you were wearing your standard issue secret service balaclava to prevent your ears from freezing solid.

This scene undoubtedly underlines why I am glad that I stay in sunny Zululand. The only ice I ever see is when I open my fridge. You have captured it well with a good balance between light and darkness.

Your reference to a ‘craphawk’ had me puzzled, because I did not know what that referred too. Then I found this hilarious contribution by Fatih Sam (fthsm) and your comments on the photo and I understood. So I definitely won’t refer to any bonus seagull in your shot.

Well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Brrrrrrrrr! WAS it cold, or did it just LOOK cold??
Brrrrrrrrrr!!!

Nice photo though, surely gives one a good view of Long Cove there, albeit a COLD one!

Nice POV on this shot, and hope that you were dressed warmly!!

I like your balance of light and dark, though you had mentioned you had "lightened" it a bit.....I think it looks well-balanced.

Hello Jay,
Lovely capture.I liked cold atmosphere, large DOF,POV and composition a lot.
TFS..:-)

Hello Jay,
Beautiful landscape with a familiar feeling, as this is what I can expect to find around my place!
I like the low point of view and inclusion of strong foreground interest...
Good details in this classical landscape composition!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Jay

Another freezingly beautiful landscape :))
I must say that i have to congratulate you, my friend, for your stoicism to pursue your photography in these harsh times.
But, the result is worth the efort: the composition is wonderful!
I really like the FG interest here - with those nice big rocks, that have good focus on them and so their textures sure enhance the overall composition.
Also the look of the frozen water is excellent and the trees - coming from the sides - and descibing the horizon live are a great touch, too.
Very beautiful work!

Bravo and TFS
Horia

PS: if i may give you an advice: i don't know in which way this is possible for your camera, but a ND Grad filter would do wonders in such photos. It would absorb a bit the light from the sky, giving it better cantrast and saturation. So far you manage splendid results in the BG and middle part of the images, and if the skies were equaly great, these pictures would be simply outstanding :)

Jay,
Nice seascape, contrast and cool feel with no warmth. Fits the coldness of the day and hard on the fingers.

Cheers:)
Roy
