Today back to the Balkans, and a new photo from Albania ;)

We came here in the early eveing to spent a night and to collect some invertebrates for studies from the Great Prespa Lake, just on the border of Albania, Greece and Former Yugoslavian Repuclic of Macedonia.

Really there was not time to look around and to take some photos but we knew that it will be possible in the morning. Michal started to prepare a supper – he decided to grill 3 endemic trouts together with red paprika, onion and egg-plants. All these components were bought in small village Lin near Ohrid Lake. Of course we had an aperitive, and it wa a bottle of great Albanian wine ;>
I really believe that I do not need to tell you how savoury supper it was! ;>

We were tired so soon after the supper we go to sleep...

The first time I woke up in the middle of night because of some car lights. It was a car of frontier rangers! Well, we were about 1 km from the border so we should expect some soldier patrols. Fortunatelly after a few minutes they go away so I could sleep again without any other problems... :>

I woke up early morning because of some voices which came from the mountains. It was really strange because the border with Greece and Republica of Macedonia was very close and I did not expect any people (except rangers) in this place.

I was really surprised! There were three men ridding on the mules and singing traditional Albanian songs. Suddenly, one of them has picked up the mobile phone and started talking... It was really amazing!

Of course you can ask why I think that this was strange...

Well, of course it was not amazing that people in Albania can sing Albanian songs or they have mobile phones!!! ;> But if you look at the picture you will see what I mean...

The wild, almost virgin mountain area which for me looks more like Mongolia than a part of the Balkans, and the modern mobile phone! What a contrast!!!
In one second I believed that if we want the nature and technology can coexist. And this was really amazing...

And now a few facts about the Great Prespa Lake.

The local names of this lake are as follow: in Albanian: Liqeni i Prespes, in Macedonian: Prespanskoto Ezero, and in Greek: Limni Megali Prespa. It is divided between Albania, Greece and the Republic of Macedonia, and is the highest tectonical lakes in the Balkan Peninsula (853 m). Moreover, it is one of the biggest lakes in Albania (even if only a part of it belongs to this country), with the surface area about 285 sq. km (3.9 sq. km in Albania). In front of Liqenas village there is a small island of Maligradi with the XIV century cherch of St Mary constructed within a cave.

I hope that you will like this small “Albanian Mongolia” :>

Czesc Radek!

Swietna historia, jak zawsze :-) Gory faktycznie wygladaja dziewiczo i monumentalnie. Piekna panorama, ladne niebo i kolory. Banda owiec troche psuje efekt :-) Tak sobie czytam o waszych wyprawach - to musi byc cos niesamowitego :-)

Hello Radomir,

What a very nice and peaceful picture!!! You managed also to use a great composition with the perfect percentage of picture given to the sky, the mountain and the field... Very well balanced!

Great picture and TFS,

Michel

Czesc Radziu
Kolejan fajna pocztowka i kolejna swietna historia. Przeczytalem co napisal Michal i chyba rzeczywiscie jest lekko przechylona ale sam bym na to nie wpadl :-)Rzeczywiscie troche jak Mongolia.
Pozdrawiam
Krzysiek

PS Znowu uciekl ci link

A lovely pastoral scene from Albania, Radomir.
Very fine angle of exposure with the lake in the middle and those rugged hills on the horizon. The depth of view here is very impressive.
Your note reads like an interesting story.
Thanks and bye.
Ram

Dear Radomir,
nice, I like the peaceful atmosphere of this landscape. Technically it's all right, so the Albanian wine did not impair your photographic wits!
Thanks for sharing.

Hej,

Serdecznosci,
Michal

P.S. no to wrzucilem fotke komplementarna :-)

*** complementary shot of Prespa itself - please see here :-)

Hello Radomir,
your series of postcards is a nice idea that gives me a lot of information and inspiration. This one I like in particular for its unspectacular silent beauty, with apparently only herds of sheep transforming and maintaining nature.
With thanks, and best regards,
Peter

Czesc Radomir! Ze tez nie wycieli Ci tego zdjecia z TN z uwagi na owieczki. Ja mialem od pol roku foto z Portugalii z pomaranczami. Wisialo, wisialo i nic. No, konien narzekania. Twoje foto dobre, bardzo dobre, ladnie zakomponowane. Interesujace tlo. Piekne kolory. Klaniam sie!
