Stink Locust
Afrikaans - Stinksprinkane
( Family Pyrgomorphidae )

Size : up to 42mm

Colour : Green, brown or black. Many species having bright markings in red, yellow, blue or green ( or in a combination of some of these colours.)

Most like : Their close relatives, the short horned grasshoppers, but the latter are brownish yellow and generally lack the brightly coloured markings of stink locusts.

Habitat : Bushes, gardens and agricultural crops.

The name says it all. This guys was caught, and I've got others pictures of him in the act, having a crap on a Madonna lily. The evidence is clear for all to see on the extreme far right of the picture behind the locust.

Great capture Willie,
The details of the locust are excellent. Good colours, sharpness and clarity.
I find the lily a bit OE, but it doesn't take anything away from this shot.
Thanks for posting

Very good macro of stinksprinkane! Details, sharpness and colors are great...The flower under it a little bright. But it gives a contrast effect and takes the attention to stinksprinkane...TFS

Nice photo of this bug. Unfortunately it looks like a soldier. But I don't like wars.

But deatails and pose very well.

Stink Locus? What a name :-) Very detailed macro, I love details of its eye. Sharp with good composition. Pity that little overexposured on flower. Overall very good Willie!

The shot is great and the details are very sharp. Too bad the lily is overexposed. Colors are great, so are the POV and DOF.

Nice effect Willie..Looks like he's surfin' the curl! Very good details & DOF. Well done!

Great Macro Willie, stunning details and great BG.

Hij is schitterend Willie,
erg mooie sprinkhaan en hij kijkt op het juiste moment, goede kleuren, uitstekende compositie. Ik denk dat je hem nog wat beter had knnen maken door neat image, very good job.

Excellent detail on the locust, it's great quality for the kit. The perch is overexposed maybe you could have cropped some of it off? Nevertheless, very good work Willie. I can't wait to see the results with the new camera!

Amazing sharpness for this critter Willie. It is a pitty for the OE but nothing can be done for this. I have tried to repare with Photoshop whitout result. It is still a great post: the picture and the note.

Are you certain it was with the video-cam? :) Its a perfect macro Willie. Tack sharp. I do find the white flower a bit bright. It seems you scared the crap out of it. :)

Very well done on this work.
