Cicindela hybrida is sligthly smaller than the more common tiger beetle Cicindela campestris. Like the former, it likes the sandy areas with little or no vegetal covering. In fact both species share the same spots in the "Réserve naturelle de Sclaigneaux", apparently in peace.
The Tiger beetles are very active predators of almost any other insects roughly their own size. They tend to run and hunt on the ground, but take flight swiftly when disturbed. |

Because of the object I just have to write some comment to your picture ;)
It is not easy to photograph tiger beetles, they are fast, are can fly, they usually are observed just in the moment when they are fling away ;)
Anyway, you take a photo - my congratulation! :)
On the other hand a little better DOF would be nice to keep the eytrae and some parts of hear sharp :)

PS. In Belgium only the nominative subspecies occurs (Cicindela hybrida hybrida).

Hello Philippe,
very good close-up of this tiger beetle considering that Cicindelas are very fast and very shy, too. I like to see the natural colours and the natural surrounding. A beautiful nature document.
