Optimism!
Will it be the Colts or the Bears? We'll soon know.
For those that don't already know: it was the Colts! 29-17 How'bout that Peyton Manning?
Is your glass half full or half empty? And, where is it after the next sip?

This Red-bellied Woodpecker Melanerpes carolinus looks optimistic to me with his head held high as if to say, "Perhaps, there is some suet or seeds down there for me and that yellow-bellied sapsucker won't be around to bully me away!"

The range of the Red-bellied Woodpecker encompasses most of the eastern portion of North America. During severe winters, Red-bellied Woodpeckers tend to migrate from the northern reaches of their range to areas where the weather is less severe. Info source

Hi Dave,

The pines are nice in tha photo and the birds eye is fantastic, thanks for sharing Dave.

Hello David,
Wonderful capture. Especially the colors and the light is very nice, an almost dream like composition. The pose of the bird is lovely and the POV is very nice. Nice sharpness and wonderful detail.

Hi Dave,
Well it's in the record books now :)
When the Bears returned that opening kick-off for a score, I thought my my Colts might be in for a long haul...NOT! The wet weather changed the face of that game.
Nice shot. I like the natural framing, good POV and the pose here :)
Well done mf.

Hi Dave

Another great capture from you!
At first, i had no idea what you first sentence was about...but that's rather understandable since we probably don't watch the same sports ;)
Then, reading on, it came quite clear why that is the title of your shot...very nice. Indeed, the lovely bird does appear to be optimistic :)
The shot itsself is great and it present this red-bellied woodpecker from a great POV.
The BG is really nice, presenting it in a wonderful natural habitat. Good sharpness and lighting, too, all-in-all making a very beautiful composition.

Bravo and TFS

Hello David,
This is a very nice shot with superb lightning and environment. Details are very good too and so is this little light in its eye. I just wonder why you don't take your picture in a vertical way to have the whole bird in the frame. :) I didn't see this specie often, well done!

Hi Dave,

Great natural colours and a nice pose of this bird.
I used to watch its cousins nesting and living on Saguaros, but never got a chance to take a good shot at them. (They are too fast for my reflexes) :-)

Cheers, Petru
