Finally, we were blessed with snow. This morning the weather forecast gave out a weather warning, which I considered as good news, that we would have snow later in the afternoon. I wasn't sure what to do at first..take the camera with me to work, or leave when the snow starts falling. I did the latter and left at 3:30. I got home got my camera, lens, towel and bag and walked to the shire of the landgrave of Rechteren Limpurg Almelo. There you have a small forrest with a really beautiful lake. Which you can see in the photo.

You might wonder why I brought along a towel. Well, its to protect the camera and lens from snow, which was still falling and to wipe the UV filter clean from any snow.

Hand held in RAW. Small adjustment in exposure and converted to JPEG. Levels, curves, frame, resize and USM

Just to make sure, this is a color photo

Hi Niek,
A really like this shot in the vertical framing. Overall composition looks great. A nice moody feel to it. Kinda makes me shiver looking at it. Nice sense of depth. Funny, as I write this I am sitting at a beach bar looking out over the Gulf of Mexico. Sunny and 82 degress. I'll stay here thank you!
Scott

Hi Niek,
Just great!
I really like everything here: the greyscale, the very appropiate POV, the subtle reflections on the water, the accents of the white snows all over, wide DOF, the magnificent and carefully builded composition, and the simple frame used.
Put all that together and gets this remarkable image.
It was a good decision leave today with the camera.
Congratulations, thanks for share the pic and my best regards,
JM

Wonderful image Niek.
Really like the detail you've captured. It could almost be black and white for the lack of colour but that's what makes it so good. Exposure is excellent and there's a great sense of serenity here.
Well done
TFS

Wow Niek - this is just beautiful. I love the way you framed the shot with the snow covered branches. The B&W is very effecting with the strong contrasts.

We had snow as well but I had to work as I was on the 2nd day of a 2 day training course I was delivering :( it's all melted now

Hello Niek
I must say that this is truly outstanding! My own attempts today seemed much too warm and dark but yours is perfect!
Fabulous POV, dof, details and textures

Hi Niek, wonderful winter landscape with splendid delicate colors like a B&W, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hoi Niek,
Ja, jij eet van twee walletjes ;) Prachtige B&W compositie man! Gewlidig het zachte contrast. De besneeuwde takken op de FG maken het echt 'af'!

Hello Niek,
And I thought this was B&W... Excellent pov and composition... I like the reflection on the icy water. Enjoy the snow-it's 15 C here.
Best wishes,
Hakan

Salut Niek

Well, finally a winter scene! There aren't any to be had around here. It feels and looks like spring! I like the nice range of values you have here....Nice darks on the branches and nice light misty background. Was this taken at the same place that you and your dad both posted pictures of? Probably not...but it does look sort of familiar. I remember I did a workshop on your dad's picture and then discovered that you and he were related and each had posted a picture of the same place.

TFS...don't slip on the ice and break your camera!!. Once, years ago I had just got a new 28-300 lens for my old SLR film camera and tripped the first time out and cracked it!!

Hi Niek

Now this is what i was taking about! Yeah!
Fantastic winter landscape, my friend!
You see...i was just telling Shir (shirgold) and Milos (mikou) to try a vertical composition on similar landscapes and judging after this one...i was right :D
This definately looks much better and it gave you an excellent coverage for the trees and their reflection.
In your particular case, it also made sure you captured in the frame these lovely branches from the FG - which do very well to attract attention to this segment of the frame, too.
The contrast and exposure here are outstanding and the DOF is just amazing!
What is even more praiseworth is that you took this hadheld and 1/13...fantastic steady heands and as a result great sharpness!

Bravo, my friend and TFS

Nice and cool picture, congratulations. Cheere, Moody

Hello Niek,
Wow! What a beautiful winter scenery. You must be happy with snow but it is a little tricky for the camera though, especially when the snow is very wet :) I like this picture a lot. All the elements are in place for a wonderful composition with excellent exposure and DOF. Congratulations!

brr...that is what i remember as winter..not all the post card stuff...grey and cold and deep
this colour shot is well into the black to white range..naturally
cheers
geof

Nicely done, Niek. Nice elements here. I think the branches on the bottom add a nice balance to the ones on the top. I love the way these grey snow scenes look black and white. Compositionally it is really well done. Since you like idea, I wonder if showing a bit less river (by crouching down a little lower) would have traded some of the vertical for a greater sense of depth.

Hi Niek.
Excellent real winter view and very nice shot. I like your composition and POV so much. The tree at FG, water with amazing reflections and snowed remote trees are looked beautifully. Soft lighting and grey cold colour palette reflect the weather state perfectly. Superb job, My compliments and TFS.

Hoi Niek,

Wat een prachtige sfeer in deze foto, echt winter!
De scherpte is perfect, de takken op de voorgrond geven het een goeie diepte en de reflectie is erg goed.
Ik vind het gewoon een schitterende foto.

Nice color picture of a black and white scene.
