... "ice lichens" aka "ice crustacia" ...

It is hard to predict where and how iceflowers will grow. Here is another bit of Nature imitating Art...

In this shot the sun also rose in the East... which happens to be the leftedge of this shot.

More on how these "ice lichens" aka "ice crustacia" appear to appear later.

Has anyone seen a recent article on this frozen matter in the journal Nature?

Enjoy.

Hi Jay,
Your window is almost like the sidewalk artists I have seen, the beauty only lasts a while, then there is a new start.
Thanks for sharing your beauty with us. Can't wait to here your theory.

Hello Jay,
thats such a wonderful shot, even in the bitter colod nature presents us with lovely things. The details on these ice flowers are amazing and the sharpness is excellent. Very nice crop and plenty of textures.
Very well done.

Again Jay you've got a superb natural phenomenon here for all to see.

The fractal shapes the ice makes are wonderful. I still prefer the other shot though, don't think it can be beat!
Lovely sharpness, is that condensation in the bottom left?
Nice shot,really interesting

Simon

Hello Jay,
another cold day, another cool picture.
I like the idea of repeating to show the same frosty window and the unpredictable shape and growth of the layer of ice from inside that we call "Eisblumen" - flowers of ice.
The background of nothing but ocean and sky, with a soft bit clearly distinctable horizon, is very effective. I like the dark hues of distant cold blue, and the light reflected in the crystals.
With thanks, and best regards,
Peter
