This is a high quality macro, with razor-sharp details and impeccable textures!
I also like the POV and DOF here, as well as the charming contrast between the yellows and the darker areas.
The reflection from the wings looks terrific, too.

Hello Anne,
This is a fine macro showing a species of Bee Fly by the name of Villa modesta.
The female presses its sticky egg on sandy ground (that's why it needs a big bottom!). The stickiness of the egg collects sand, which protects it from the harmful effects of the sun and predators.
When the larva hatches it looks for a caterpillar, usually of some species of moth, by crawling up a plant. When it finds a host caterpillar it eats its way into it and becomes a parasite, gradually eating away its host.
TFS for posting this sharp and well composed shot of high quality, which easily allowed me to ID it.

Very good macro of this hairy bee, Anne. Goes very well with the yellow flower for BG.
The details and colours are extra sharp.

Nice macro Anne with excellent focus and colors.

I like it a lot: composition, POV, sharpness, colors, DOF, focus, lighting, background, framing.

I like it: notes.

I don't like it: the loss of quality for the low compression of the image.

An interesting capture with pleasant point of view and framing something centered in the insect.
Why did you have kept the file with so few Kb.?

fast habe ich erwartet, dieses Foto sei "frisch" in diesen milden Februartagen augenommen. Doch Gott sei Dank stammt es aus dem letzten Sommer, lichtdurchflutet, scharf und klar, schlicht und das Gemüt erwärmend.
