|This robin was in a tree in my backyard. it was preening and fluffing out its feathers. this shot catches it in the middle of a very vigorous head shake.|
and yes the color of the chest feathers is correct. they're more of an orange red than deep red.

Preening birds might require greater shutter speed than that, Tom, IMO.
Anyway, the mid section is in good focus and the colors you speak of are well captured.
