Mallow Skipper
Carcharodus alceae

Distribution: Across Europe except UK and Scandinavia. Replaced in SW Iberian peninsular and some Greek islands by the False Mallow Skipper, C. tripolinus. Altitude: sea level to 2000m.

Identification: Small hyline (transparent) spots on forewing. Dark grey brown on ups. Uns hw with post discal arc of small chevrons, no discal arc, cell spot large and isolated from other markings. Similar species are the False Mallow Skipper, C. tripolinus (these two species are externally inseparable, identification is by the male genitalia) and the Marbled Skippers in the same genus.

Flight time: flies in the warmer months, from April to October in the south, in several broods. Disappears between broods.

Habitat: Lush to very dry grassy places often with flowers and amongst scrub or woodland. Larvae take Malva sylvestris and other plants.

Behaviour: Flies rapidly low over the ground. It shows some signs of territorial behaviour, often patrolling the same corner of a field or stretch of woodland path and disappearing in a whirring battle for a few moments when challenged by other passing skippers or butterflies.

Hello Yildiz,
This is a fine capture of a Mallow Skipper (Carchorodus alceae). This shot is close, a little soft but well composed and with fine BG.
TFs and best wishes, Ivan

Very good fresh picture of this butterfly, Yildiz.
I am also struggling with raw format these days. I guess it requires a strong editor and the trial version of Nikon Capture is so so in my opinion. I am thinking of going for CS2.
TFs and take care.

Hello Yildiz,
What a beautiful Skipper you've captured here. Focus is a bit soft but details are still very beautiful and the colours very gentle and lovely. I like the composition too.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hi Yildiz.
Great capture of this Mallow Skipper with pretty details in beautiful pose on flower.
Composition and POV are superb as well as nice lighting.Very good OOF background too.
Well done,TFS and best greetings.

Bel close up, colorato e dettagliatissimo,

Dear Yildiz,
this is a beautiful, very detailed portrait of a skipper that I may have never seen before. Patterns are shown in a perfect way, composition is well balanced, and background is pleasantly colourful, contrasting, and distant.
I suppose the image might well take some more contrast to get more impact. Tried a little workshop.
With thanks, and best regards,

Hi Yildiz.
You have shared a very nice shot. Great pictured scene, excellent compositioin, POV and DOF. The skipper and flowers are detailed very well. BG is really amazing, well colored and blurred. I also like the workshop, shared by Peter. It eliminates all weak point of your nice picture. My compliments and TFS.

Hello Yidliz,
Congratulations for your first picture in RAW. Now that you have broken the ice, you will not what to go back as RAW offers so many possibilities. This is a very nice capture of this Skipper. I like the colors, texture, details, POV, composition and this beautiful BG. I think that Peter's WS gave good result too but it is very well done at the start. Keep on shooting in RAW, you'll love it :) Thanks,

TFS.
Un cordial saludo desde Buenos Aires... Ricardo

Merhaba Yildiz... nice macro with enclosed but effective DOF (you forgot to include the values) achieving good focus and diffusion of the background.
I like the point of view captured with tones and sharpness something soft like it can be appreciated in Peter's workshop.
Anyway, it is a beautiful post... TFS.
A cordial greeting from Buenos Aires... Ricardo

Hello Yildiz,
It's a very nice butterfly species. I like very much its delicate colours and elegant pattern on wings. Aparently we have it in Poland but I have never encounter it. Very nice light and DOF. The image lacks a bit of contrast but Peter enhanced it very well in his workshop.
Overall a very nice job.
Best greetings and TFS!
