... aka "When the Westwind Blows"...

When a setting sun
is trapped in winter's ice,
my fingers pay the price...
for I am having fun!

Inspired by: Winter
(From "Love's Labour's Lost")

When icicles hang by the wall,
And Dick the shepherd blows his nail,
And Tom bears logs into the hall,
And milk comes frozen home in pail,
When blood is nipp’d and ways be foul,
Then nightly sings the staring owl,
Tu-who, a merry note,
While greasy Joan doth keel the pot.

When all aloud the wind doth blow,
And coughing drowns the parson’s saw,
And birds sit brooding in the snow,
And Marion’s nose looks red and raw,
When roasted crabs his in the bowl,
Then nightly sings the staring owl,
Tu-who, a merry note,
While greasy Joan doth keel the pot.

With complements to Silke who reminded me of the immortal line
And Dick the shepherd blows his nail.
I blew my nails alright! It was CÖLD... again... or is that STILL?

It is fire in ice... The sun was in the West, and its low rays
were hitting the icicles, impregnating them with fire...

The icicles were there because my gutter had a leak and water dripped on a mesh
where some of the water promptly froze and some went thru to freeze below
to form the icicles.

Yes, Nature is full of surprises! Thanx for viewing.

Hi Jay,
This shot of water frozen on some mesh and then captured with backlit has created some very eye appealing patterns and icicles, thanks for sharing my friend.

Hi Jay,
A very nice abstract ice composition. The ighting makes for some great sparkling highlights on the ice. Nice eye here.

This is a glorious capture! Frozen fingers reaching for the earth, sparkling in the sun that gives them life and will slowly erase them simply by giving them that life.
Great composition, colours and details

Hi Jay. A piece of natural art well presented in this manner. Glittering ice has a charm of its own. Good poem also, well done. Murray.

Hi Jay,

An interesting subject well presented. With temp reaching mid thirties (c) in South Africa, it is difficult to imaging the cold you are experiencing. It is even nice thinking about cooling down like this, although you probably would swop places with me.

Well done with this shot and thank you for sharing.

Merhaba Jay,
That's a very cool shot. Great abstraction on ice... Good exposure too considering the difficulty. Well done.

Hello Jay what an amazing shot the light is wonderfull and reflections like jewels well spotted and composed tfs rgds Necip

Nicely captured. I like the effects of the back light.

Hi Jay,
The effect of the frozen water is really wonderful. The choise of backilight is perfect and brought out the beauty. Just whish you had used a slightly smaller DOF, so that more parts were in focus.
I do like the abstract feel to the photo.

Hi Jay and sorry for the delay

This is really a very minimalistic but very beautiful compsition!
I realyl like all the details and reflection of the light here!
The colors that resulted are terrific and the 3D effect is a WOW!!!
Very good management of the DOF - that keeps all the elements in full focus - and also exposure (you were very careful not to overexposed the reflected lights).
All-in-all a very original composition.

Bravo and TFS

Hi Jay,
