[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Along the edges of the frozen marshes, growing just uphill from the bull-rushes, these Common Reeds (Phragmites australis) with their feathery fronds are an everyday sight. The seed heads are a lot tougher than they look, hanging on through winter gales and heavy snowfalls and the nourishing grains provide food for a variety of winter birds.
I wasn't really supposed to be walking at all that day, having broken a toe less than a week before, but I couldn't resist the combination of weathered fronds, icy snow and brilliant blue sky.
Was it worth it? Only you can tell (^o^)
Tech: shot in RAW, converted to jpg, resized for TN, selected frond and reversed selection, then reduced noise in sky
Thank you Rob Fry (arfer) for providing the ID

Lovely! Another depiction of what winter is like in CANADA!
And you know me and cropping... so I would prefer to remove the second plume in the LL corner. As the photo has
good potential I did a WS for you ;)

Sorry to hear abt yer busted toe! What we don't do to get shots eh! Tfs, Jay

Hi Silke,
First, you don't know how my times a day you bump your toe until you have a broken one, I have been there so my sympathy goes out to you. Now this fantastic composition of yours, the point of view is marvelous, the colors are outstanding and the details are sharp, great job Silke.

Hello Silke,
Lovely lighting, detail and comp. in this fine snowy presentation of a Phragmites head against a fine blue sky.
Very artistic!
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Hello Silke,
I like the way you capture simple subjects and makes them superb! I like this POV, details and contrast. This blue sky is perfect and the snow on the Reed is beautiful! I also like the WS that added some contrast and got rid of the other plant in the down left corner. How can you walked with a broken toe? It seems that it is so painful, poor you... Well seen and yes, it worth it! Thanks,
Claudine

Hi Silke,
Well composed in the vertical, a simple but effective frame. Perfect exposure and nice colors. Looks great against the blue sky, and laden with snow. Was it moving in the wind? That would explain your high film and s-speed..
Well done & TFS.

A simple and pleasant composition, Silke.
The reed frond with some snow on it looks beautiful against the blue sky.
Thanks for sharing this image.

Hi Silke,
Pretty resilient these reeds to be able to stand up do such harsh conditions.I like how they are frozen with the glimpses of ice.Stands out well on the blue sky.Not even a broken toe can stop you from getting out and capuring an image eh? Regarding my roots....I'm originally from good old england.....i suppose you noticed my accent :-).Take care and look after that toe!
Regards, David

Hi Silke,

Well captured, neat blue sky for BG.
Very nice shot.

Hello Silke,
that triumphant flagpole of winter against a bright blue sky of spring looks like a perfect sculpture.
I like this elegant, highly reduced and dynamic composition very much.
Thank you! With best regards,
Peter
