Seems to me that Treknature has become recently quite a boring place
to be, a place where lack of innovations excitement.... spark and hope chased
away the good spirits ...shame !!!!!

Oh George!! LOL i have MISSED YOU...and all your phenomenal photography!!

I'll be honest..lurk now and then here but so busy in the "material" world and time "in" nature has been "null". Personal issues/economic strain/ traumas at work/the squeeze..drains the vision and almost extinguishes the spark. My only solstice has been the screen captures caught watching the 24/7 live cam of the Great Blue Herons @ the Cornell Ornithology web cam site. But today i came here..read this and truly LOL!!! Adore you George..see you soon, its a cloudy day today...and do have off from work and might get out for the sunset roosting @ the marsh. :0) Good spirits not all gone ((hugs))

Yes TN is going through a calm phase... but for me seeing photos of flora and fauna on our still bodiverse planet is never boring. There are still many good and original pictures. What is boring is to read meaningless comments that belong to other sites.

Not boring at all to a true nature lover. How can a forum be boring when real time photos of flora/fauna/landscape are continually being posted from all corners of the globe?

Technically, the critique/comment thing might be better served with a more fool-proof algorithm/system that filters/discourages cliqueshness & plastic critiques ..... & rewards clickishness with a more honest, appropriate analyses.

George,

i thought boring only was my life here in this beautiful (new to me) country where sadly i have no public vehicles, no like-minded people around and no driving license, and hence can't explore and frustratingly stuck in one place.. i thought, most of my well-known, talented friends in TN were, somehow, busy in their lives, that's why the site turned out to be so empty and uninteresting...
but am glad and astonished (at the same time) to know that many of you... you, Ram, Tom, Ivan... this way or that way, are sharing the same feeling as do i.
it may be due to this (monotonous) summer.. let monsoon come, and Nature is surely going take us in an another splendid trip. give it to time, and see!
till then... boring, indeed.

George..you want boring? Try being in a coma for 6 months and then not being able to walk for another 18 months.. I missed photograph so much... Silvio took pics and Luciano and so many others who were there all the time... it was down for me.. and now I have a small window to come back from time to time. I enjoy seeing the lovely photos and learning so much about new things in places I will never be able to go now because I am "disabled".. but I look forward to my friends here..... I guess what I am trying to say is... it depends on your perspective...boring to one might be a pure joy to another or a new learning experience to a young man or woman...life is good....I am alive thanks to God... and I hope some day to be back 100 percent.... I pray... thank you for your ear.

Hi George,

I Just returned to TN after some time and was shocked to see that number of postings reduced to a great extent .. i knew there were issues with TOC and many left .. but never thought it would come to such a state :-( any ways life should move on .. I hope all my old friends return and start posting again.

Face it, the reason why people are leaving or reduce posting is to a large extent due to moderator behaviour. This goes for all Trek sites, and the smaller ones (TN and TL) are suffering most.

TrekLens hardly has outside visitors anymore, and as we know they are the ones bringing money to the site owner. TN still draws quite a number of visitors because of the interest value of the nature theme, but a positive development in the future will depend on continued posting of quality images.

It is a bit strange that the site owner doesn’t see the moderation problem, but they most likely don’t bother to look so closely into the matter. A change will most likely bring back some of the former members that have left too, provided something happens soon…

What the Trek sites really need is a team of moderators that understands the concept of marketing!

Hi Pablo,

In the age of FB and other photo sharing sites , TN with its content could have competed , but looks like IB is not concerned or don't want to investigate the reduction in posting.

Being in IT and a owner of a photo sharing site myself I/we come up with lot of idea's like news letters etc to keep interest going ... and believe me its easy to evoke interest..

WRT to moderation , i'm not sure what went wrong ! in most of the sites extreme moderation is not really required other than removing illegal content :-) .

Was there any partial removal or moderation of critiques ???(I'm asking this as i was away for some time ).. if yes i feel Moderators do not have to really referee between 2 players when things hot up! Begin a site where critique sharing is primary goal most of us are open to bouquets and brick bats and moderators do not have to come between an argument!

Anyways i feel bad that this is happenning and if IB really wants to solve the problems they have to first publish a transparent policy and make sure old members come back ..if its a issue of time and material .. i'm sure lot of us are ready to help if we are asked !!

Last I feel a nature photographer has to be moderator on TN ( Not sure whether this is the case )

Goutham R

Goutham,

When moderation takes on the clothes of personal vendetta things have gone too far, don’t you agree?

We need rules no doubt about that, but rules have to be practiced to the benefit of the active members and not as some kind of playground for a person in power.

I don’t say that the customer is always right, but moderation in the Trek sites seems to be based on the principle ”the customer is never right”…

Frankly – since I’m one of the hundreds who already left I don’t care much what the end will be… probably no change at all (until IB had enough and close the site).

If the moderator has got personal in any way its bad and no wonder ppl are leaving. My post was never to justify what has happened it was just a way of lamenting :-). I respect your decision to leave and feel sad that it has come to this :-(

Well ... so many months later this forum seems to be the most valuable and interesting of all ... Since then so little has been changed if anything, and seems to me I was right.... painfully right! From an interesting, creative and encouraging website Treknature become boring and insignificant ... a place of mediocrity! Do not believe me !!!!??? Please, go back in time and see for yourself !

I posted a photo of a granite waterfall in treknature today...it wasn't boring to me when it was removed. I formerly posted on this site under the account bigfigyogi several years ago,and had a shot of a big tree removed because of people in it. Was this removal based on somebodies arbitrary whim or did I break a rule or was it too boring?

Pictures never get removed because they are boring but because there is too much human presence or because they show domestic animals or plants, you surely will get a notification by the mods.
Re: Boring ...Boring ...Treknature bfg (22)::2013-04-30 11:53
The moderator notified me that it was a duplicate picture. As I hadn't posted it here before, I asked for review ,but did see there was an electronic communication from TL to TN. I did post that picture today on TL and TE. I was not aware that there were interlinking rules. Through the years, I have found TN to be a lot more receptive, helpful and less competitive than TL or TE. Some of my photos are on all three sites, but most are different. I have just made the decision to leave TL on account of this .But I hope to remain at TN.
