When you take pictures underwater then it's really important that you get close to the subject. The biggest reasons are the light and particles in the water. Light don't travel so well in water and the more water you have between you and the subjects the higher risk that you capture the particles.

For lightening I'm using a powerfull Subtronic Gamma strobe.
