|The window was no more than I meter in height - I think. The stratification is not the normal sort of stratification found in sedimentary rock - it is called false bedding - usually caused by deposition by wind in desert areas, though it can also be caused by seasonal and irregular 'pulse' deposition - such a very infrequent river in a desert area - the resulting rocks are irregular in strata and particle size.
The shine is part of the process and is probably salt - though in places it may be the start of desert varnish.
