Yes - Petra has the same root as Peter - which also means rock. In french, Pierre is the name Peter, but also the word for rock (from 'the rock on which I shall build my church'). I remember in my french GCSE having a mind block as the translation was a building made of grey Peter - I compromised and put grey Peter-stone - and remembered as soon as I got out of the exam.
