I don't have a special pano head on my tripod... I have a very lightweight tripod for obvious hiking reasons, but the screw-in adaptor plate and the rotation point on my tripod by shear chance are in the correct location for rotation....
As for the settings, once I have the exposure worked out, by scanning the loch and aiming for the average, I then set them manually in the camera so they stay constant across the 4 frames, but this only really works well when the conditions are unlikely to change during the shots... This is using the M feature rather than using the other method which only keeps it constant for the single shot whilst you re-position the camera...
