Here is what I did:

Enlarged to 600 pixels/inch.
Since there were no space in front of the bird I had to do a little trick in PS. I copied the hole picture into a new layer. Then I copied the background into the new layer in front of the bird.
Then I erazed the sharp edge and blurred the rest.
Finally I cloned the colour of the beak to the higlight areas (the burned places).
Ending with a little usm and posted.
