Mallard - Anas platyrhynchos

A few of the Drakes at a smaller pond I visit appear to have white eyelids. Not sure why, can't find any information on them. Thought it was quite interesting, so of course had to share.

Tried to find something new and interesting on Mallards...

A duck's "quack" doesn't echo because it's resonant/anti-resonant. It is also only a
certain sound that they make that will not echo. The non-echoing sound mentioned is used
for inter-species location, while flying or otherwise. It's true that no one knows why
they would need this ability but it is thought to be a "fluke" of nature. The study of
anti-resonant sound came from the study of mallards. One of the more intriguing aspects of
anti-resonance is the possible use in restaurants and cars. Restaurants could use
anti-resonance in private booths to keep them "private". Cars could use anti-resonance to
completely silence the engine.

Thanks for taking the time to look.

That loud, quack, quack, quack, quack, quack, is done by the female not the male. LOL
Excelent capture and well done on the composition. Interesting eye lid, that's for sure.

Hello Julia. I like ducks and your picture is very nice. Look at him, he's sleeping and he doesn't even know his picture will be watched by people all over the world. :) Good colors and a nice low POV. His feet seem a little overexposed but not too serious. TFS!

Nice shot Julia!
I liked the composition and DOF very much!

Wonderful capture Julia!
The colors are incredible and detail is sharp, my only nit is the FG and I might have cropped it, otherwise a perfect shot to my eye. Thank you for sharing it with us.
