|This spider was about 1/4" in length. I have not been able to identify it.|
I must first of all extend you belated welcome on TN.
Coming to your current picture of a Spider, I have a few observations to make.
The macro image is pretty good, but it is a bit too small in size.
The colours on the Spider's abdomen are very interesting. In fact, it reminds me of earth shape seen from the space :).
However, there is some noise in the background. It is caused by many factors including under-exposure.
It can be removed by filtering devices at the PP stage when you improve your image on a photo-editing software.
You have a versatile Nikon D80 and I am sure you would be able to take better pictures as you continue shooting.
Incidently, we are allowed to post 800x800 pixel images, so you can make your pictures bigger. The file size limitation is 300KB.
I hope my observations have not offended you.
Keep shooting and all the best.
PS: Couldn't resist the urge to do a workshop on your picture. Hope you do not mind.
