[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Mayflies are the most primitive and ancient order of living winged insects.
They have lived on earth for around 300 million years.

The nymphs live for up to 4 years, clinging to rocks and pebbles in streams and ponds eating algae. As most people know, adult Mayflies, having no mouthparts, cannot eat,and only live a day,or sometimes an hour or two
.... yet they appear in such large swarms in some countries that they make roads slippery and clog gutters.
In Papua New Guinea they are made into sago pancakes.
About 2500 species are known worldwide.
All 40 found in New Zealand are unique to this country.

Hope you like my second Mayfly on TN
I posted the first in February 2005
You can see that one here: Mayfly
Thanks for looking,
Steve

Good to see you here again and a nice shot of a mayfly. Can't imagine eating a mayfly pancake though, but then again I ate some funny things in Thailand.

Helo Steve,
Good macro, interesting result with f/4, achieving a defined leaves in the atmosphere of the photo. The details of the bug are good. The most commendable is the use of light, I notice that you had to expose 1/125s to achieve sufficient details and texture in the insect. Good work!
