[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This picture illustrates biggest problem during taking photos in snowy winter - light control. Usually there isn't too much light in shady areas under trees. So it is necessary to set higher iso and longer shutter speed. Which isn't good choice because birds are fast. You stand and take hundreds photos of dark and blurred tits but suddenly you spot something like this woodpecker on sunny trunk. You know that you have maybe three seconds for taking pictures so there is no time for changing iso and stuff. Click-click-click, woodpecker gone and you left with three far too bright pictures and you can return to your favourite job - taking hundreds of dark and blurry pictures of tits.

Hy Greg
In my oppinion, is not too bright picture:in fact, it's shows very well the bird plumage, the pheathers contour. In fact, is perfect!
PS: And what happend with dark-blured pictures of tits? Are we waiting for at least one of them?

hello Grzegorz

Hi Grzegorz,
You're right, photographed with these funds so luminous, it must be a very complex challenge. But you've solved the problem very well. The snow background has a perfect equilibrium reached, even we can appreciate the textures and shapes in snow! The details and colors of the bird are quite adequate, whith a special volume in the plumage. I think this photo records the scene "as seen with the naked eye". Congratulations, good handling of optics settings.

Hey, Grzegorz.
Nice picture of a woodpecker. Agrees with the difficult circumstances, to shoot birds, which are constantly moving, and varying light conditions. Good job.

Regards, Anders.

Hello Greg,
I love your note, it seems very familiar!! You managed to get this very fine capture though showing the beautiful Woodpecker in a nice pose and details are super sharp. Lovely colours too. But the white backgrounds are a problem and today we're getting another dm of snow here - oh well, 'only' two more months and spring will be here again! ;-/
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Greg,

Wonderful capture of a noisy beauty, seems perfect in every way.
Great use of the DOF, everything looks amazingly sharp.
TFS and have a nice day MF!

Hello Greg,
This is an excellent capture of woodpecker with perefct details of plumage attire, sharpness & POV. The luminosity & composition are grand. It stands out well against the faded background over tree trunk. TFS

This woodpexker is very nicely captured with excellent sharpness and technical composition despite the problems you mentioned.
Lively view and very well detailed featurtes. The colours are well preserved and the vertical composition is simply stunning.
