Spilostethus pandurus (Scopoli, 1763)
Heteroptera: Lygaeidae

Spilostethus pandurus is a rather large bug 0,8-1,0cm long, a very common heteroptera of cretan fauna.
Biotope: Flower meadows, gardens, cultivated areas. On Ombellifers and other flowers in simmer, on rocks and trunks in autumn.
Wing span: 13-15mm
Spilostethus pandurus is a red and black bug showing a white dot on the centre of the wing membrane.
You can tell it apart with the two wide black and wavy longitudinal bands running from the front to the rear of the pronotum. This species which feeds on flowers, seeds and plants can cause damaged to the crops.

Hello Nikos,
Wonderful shot of this brightly colored insect sharing the same perch with a snail. It actually looks fairly similar to our Milkweed Bugs. The detail is outstanding and the blue sky makes a very attractive BG. The exposure is perfect and you have obtained plenty of DOF. Great job!!
