Walking in Valais :
For many Swiss the Valais is not just a region for skiing but also a bit of Mediterraneïs and Eastern European steppes combined :-). That holds for some plants and animals occurring there. Here is one of my favoreds, the Owly Sulfur (Libelloïdes coccajus (Denis& Schiffermüller), Libellen- Schmetterlingshaft. Ascalaphidae, Neuroptera).
These numerous warm loving animals are flying their rounds in May and June, constantly chasing insect prey or congenerics.

North of the Alps the occurrence of the species is disjunct in warm parts of the Jura mountains and the Kaiserstuhl (Germany). In Europe we find 6 different Sulfur species but the whole Palaearctis holds many more.

Hi Dietrich, this is a common species in Italy too,but not in my region and i never meet this beauty. The pic is a masterwork, impressive sharpness everywhere, till on the top of the antennae, very very well done! Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano
