[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I wish all my friends in TN a real Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.
Sorry I have not been so active here in TN over the past few years I have lost the pleasure to show off my photographs and also the desire to shoot. It is mostly a repetition of previously displayed images. :-( I think I have 500,000 images in my archive so I've probably photographed almost everything.
I need enough new subjects and challenges to think that it's as fun as ever.
Now I live in Cyprus six months every year and have found some new species to take pictures that I can share with you.
Perhaps the desire will start returning. ;-)

This is a European Goldfinch, taken in Ayia Napa down by the Beach.
It’s very nice to find this bird here. Maybe it is wintering as I do ;-)

From Wikipedia.
The average Goldfinch is 12–13 cm long with a wingspan of 21–25 cm and a weight of 14 to 19 grams. The sexes are broadly similar, with a red face, black and white head, warm brown upperparts, white underparts with buff flanks and breast patches, and black and yellow wings. On closer inspection male Goldfinches can often be distinguished by a larger, darker red mask that extends just behind the eye. In females, the red face does not reach the eye. The ivory-coloured bill is long and pointed, and the tail is forked. Goldfinches in breeding condition have a white bill, with a greyish or blackish mark at the tip for the rest of the year. Juveniles have a plain head and a greyer back but are unmistakable due to the yellow wing stripe. Birds in central Asia (caniceps group) have a plain grey head behind the red face, lacking the black and white head pattern of European and western Asian birds.

Gert, you are a 'wealthy' nature photographer with a mind-boggling collection of first rate pictures and you occasionally keep on sending one of your masterpieces our way here on TN.
The Goldfinch in your picture from Cyprus looks adorable in the bright sunshine.
I too wish you Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Hi Gert,
The desire returns very fastly, be sure. We all hope we may enjoy your newer and older photos for a long time here on TN. Such great ones as this. Exceptional image. Bravo.
I wish merry Christmas to you & your loved ones, friendly regards, László

Hallo Gert
This is a super image for many reasons. Firstly I love the golden sunlight that is so beautifully seen in the scene. Secondly I love the dried twigs and branches with its pretty shapes. These branches also create an ideal frame around the bird. Thirdly your beautiful main subject, The European Goldfinch which you captured with such preciseness and grace. What a beauty! Thanks for sharing. Best regards.
Anna

with very fine POV and framing, lovely light,

LOST THE DESIRE TO SHOOT??? wow...I'm wordless..never been there..umm or wordless actually...and that IS RARE. Shooting is like capturing intimacy in nature. So i suppose..you are like Adam...and now a rib will taken from you ...o strike that...done already. What I'm really thinking is its great to meet you (not sure how i got on this pic..think researching cameras) and took a quick look at your old pics WOWOWOW You've definitely been to the Summit. Now maybe you're in a thorn bush but i have my eye on you and can glean EVERYTHING i can from your past...and look fwd to you being present with us again. (are you taking your daily vitamins?) Its great to meet a champion and with that being said WELCOME SORTA BACK!! :0)
