Wadi Matra, Sinai
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|Nature in Egypt:|
From Nuwaiba in Southern Sinai to the Eastern orthodox monastery of Saint Catherine (دير سانت كاترين ) the road passes through Wadi Matra. The sandstone walls are heavily eroded. As a non-geologist I wondered: where did all that red-colouring iron come from? Maybe nearby volcanic eruptions contributed iron. The ions or even the Iron oxides might be transported by water as the coloured strains suggest.
For the wadi plain in front I suspect that millenium- long grazing by goats and sheep might have turned the original steppe to a desert-steppe.
The picture lacks a proper foreground or a perspective line, sorry for that

Great rocky fungus and the vertical crack make it more charming but the world never been and seen this place, it worth visiting.
