I wasn't sure whether to post this shot as the quality isn't as good as the other holiday shots but in the end I decided to show you my fleeting rainbow.

This appeared very briefly in the sky just as the sun was setting. It was a very short and straight rainbow but the colours were very intense. It was gone very quickly but I was happy to be able to see it and capture it on camera

Rainbow Facts from http://people.bath.ac.uk

The idea that a pot of gold can be found at the end of the rainbow originated from somewhere in Old Europe. In Silesia, Eastern Europe, it was said that angels put the gold there and only a nude man could retrieve it!

It is a myth that you can walk under a rainbow and come out of the other side. This is because a rainbow is all water and so it will always be in front of you while your back is to the sun. Old Europeans, however, believed that you would be transformed into the opposite sex by walking under a rainbow!

Two people never see the same rainbow! No 2 people can occupy the same place at the same time and water droplets are always moving. Therefore, the rainbow is always moving and even your eyes see 2 different rainbows!

Legends of many cultures see rainbows as a bridge between heaven and earth. Iranian Moslems saw significance in the colours with red indicating war, green - abundance and yellow - death. Arawak Indians of South America, however, thought that rainbows would bring fortune if seen over the ocean, whilst tribes in Siberia thought it was the tongue of the sun.

Hi Karan

I agree...i'm glad you posted this one, too!
This really is a splendid rainblow and one much clearer that seen in most photos! You are right, the colors are much more intense her and that's what makes it so special.
The composition you managed to ceate is also splendid - with the clouds around and the sea below.
Now i really hate to pick on anything on such lovely posts, but i think the horizon is just a liiiiiiiittle bit titted.

Anyway, brilliant work!
Bravo and TFS
Horia

Hello Hester,
It is quite interesting to see the shape of this rainbow, indicating that only a part of the space has water droplets!
Good colour palette and wonderful playof light!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hello Karan!

This is one most beautifull shows of our mother nature. Rainbow is rather hard to capture in interesting way, but you did it great. I like composition with different kinds of clouds and of course great main subject. Congratulations! Now you should look for pot of gold ;-)

Hi Karan

The idea that a pot of gold can be found at the end of the rainbow originated from somewhere in Old Europe. In Silesia, Eastern Europe, it was said that angels put the gold there and only a nude man could retrieve it. Lol, why only a nude man Karan? This is beautiful and I'm glad that you posted it. Rainbow's pictures are not easy to do and this one is well exposed, composed and those colors are beautiful. I like this framing that you chose and most of all; I really enjoyed reading those great and funny notes :))) Thanks,
Claudine

Hi Karan
hmm... I knew about the pot of gold but I never knew about the nude man!?
This is a very beautiful shot Karan, you had great light with this one. I like the light spot in the dark cloud and the light spot under the dark cloud.

Ab Fab shot Karen, how can you count the quality of a rainbow! The colours and hues in the shot are wonderful and the rainbow is vibrant and strong with soft edges making it a both moody and dramatic shot. Glad you took it.
