Brimstone is the ancient name for Sulpher. This is the yellow colouring that you can see here on one of the dormant craters on Etna. The red is Haematite (iron oxide)staining. I took this photo to try and show the wonderful colours in Etna's dark surface.

This is one of the dormant craters. Etna has 4 active craters but also has hundreds of dormant craters where an eruption occured and was subsequently plugged. The size of Etna needs to be seen to be believed.

Hi Karen,

a very impressive sight, but very difficult to get a scale.
You've caught the colours well, it would be very easy to have them washed out I should think.
Well done.

Gary

Hello Karan

It shows very well,I immediately focused in on those two elements.I like the POV of this shot.I find it odd that snow is present, even with the venting. The shot has excellent focus and details, the lighting is well handled and this really aids the colours.TFS

Hello Karan,
Beautiful place.Well caught,framed and composed.Have a great week!
TFS..:-)

Hi Karan,
Great shot of this dormant crater. The different colors from the different elements is perfectly captured. The sulpher is visable immediately, but when I looked closer I also saw the iron oxide. I am still amazed about the combination of hot steam and snow. Looks like a path is going toward the right. You're creating two very exciting travelogues.

Niek

Hi karan

I had no idea Brimstone is the ancient name for Sulpher...but now that you've mentioned it, it makes sence :)
Another splendid shot from your last trip, one with plently of sharp details, but also wonderful colors, this time.
Again a spot-on exposure and a great perspective.

Bravo and TFS
