[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi all
this picture (hardly cropped) was taken with my Canon G10, a great compact camera with 28.-140 mm lens (35mm film equivalent, actually it is a 6.1-30.5mm f/2.8-4.5).
In my last post yesterday I told you that Ospreys in the Red Sea area are much more approachable than European ones, but still I never would have thought possible to take such a picture with just a 140 mm (yesterdays post was taken with a 672 mm equivalent (300 mm plus 1.4 converter plus aps-C camera body)
So how did I approach this guy to come that close?
Please have a look at the workshop where you can see me taking this picture (actually the workshop's picture was taken by pirate-s).
The Canon G10 was protected by an Underwater-case from Canon, I will show you underwater picture these days
Cheers
Tom

Hi Tom,

A excellent shot good fine detail shown in the bird, colours are good and natural. Well stalked and waited for. Only I would have put it in portrait mode ( have put copy in your workshop)

TFS regards Bill

Hello Tom,
Good photo of this Osprey. Indeed very close. Excellent natural colours and sharpness. Pleasant blue sky as BG. Very good composition.

Peter

Hi Tom,
I understand your excitement well. It's incredible what the compact cameras with good lenses can do today, unthinkable a few years ago. But of course your original technique of approaching an Osprey is the cherry on top of the pie. Thanks for letting us in to your secrets. Well done, Tom.
Best regards
Dietrich

Hello Tom,

Wow! What an incredible shot!!! I saw the workshop and am still impressed by your approach! At 140mm it is very remarkable to get such a picture! You managed perfectly the exposition and the nice blue sky enhances very well the osprey.

Very, very nice picture!

TFS!

hello Tom,
sharpness, POV, composition and colors wonderful. this is really perfect with a compact of 140mm. it really gives great result merging with your mastership. I'd like to see your underwater posts.

Hallo Tom
What a beauty is this Osprey, and how well did you capture it. The details are seen with such great clarity and I especially refer to and fancy the beak that looks like a hook and which I am sure can do lots of harm to its prey. I just love the detail in the feathers and the yellow in the eye. The Osprey is a stunning bird which I have not yet have the oppertunity to capture or to see from close by. That is one of the reasons I like this image. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.
Anna
