Nymphaea lotus ou lotus, lotier d’Egypte observé à Taipa dans le Jardin Lou Lim Ieoc.
"Plante vivace aquatique ; feuillage flottant persistant, vert foncé brillant, très épais, écussonné avec des tiges charnues et rigides ; feuille de 30 - 50 cm circulaire, irrégulièrement dentée assez aigue, fendue à la base. Port étalé. Floraison de fin de printemps à été, très parfumée, nocturne : s’ouvrant de l’après-midi au matin durant 4 jours, bien au-dessus du niveau de l’eau. Grandes fleurs 20 - 35 cm, une vingtaine de pétales étroits, pointus, implantés en spirale, étamines entre 30 et 190. Fruits baies charnues, murissant sous l’eau …"
