Wasp captured during my summer holiday in Aluszta on Crimean Penisula. In this place every kind of insect is two or three times bigger than in Poland :-) Wasps, bees, spiders, moths, grasshopers... Garden near house where we lived was macro-paradise! I dpn't know exactly species of this one but maybe TNers could help with ID?

The term "wasp" has little taxonomic meaning, as it applies to many different kinds of insects. Nearly all the social wasps are in the family Vespidae, whose members are easily identified by their habit of folding their wings lengthwise (a family of closely related wasps, the Eumenidae, shares this habit). Most Vespids are black with yellow or white markings, which clearly mark them as potent stingers. As meat-eaters, they fill either carnivorous or carrion-feeding niches. Social wasps are ecologically important, removing large numbers of plant-eating insects from their ecological communities.

A very good shot, just a bit noisy.
TFS.

I agree with netfalls in every word :)

Apart from the small amount of noise - which has already been commented on - this is a very good capture with good DOF, sharpness and colours. There's a bit of glare on the branch which you may be able to get rid of by selecting it and toning it down in PP.

wow(sp) ,what a sharp one!idd, a little noisy but neat image would probely take away most details.
good colours and good composition too.well done!

Very nice shot, wonderful details, great colors! Good work. Claude
PS: I like a lot the bee, not the wasp!

I dont know why people say "duck" when there is a low branch or something where you can knock your head. If you say "wasp" they "duck" a lot quicker, lower and move faster :)

I like this compostion and the sharpness is excellent.

Very well done and thanks for posting

Nice macro, Grzegorz. Good DOF for f/3.2. Surprising. No fill-flash too!
Great composition.
A very good post: picture and note.
Thanks

Great low perspective on this one. Excellent detail and colour. Would maybe increase contrast a little. Very nice.

An excellent macro, POV, DOF, sharpness and composition are all excellent. the small amount of noise can easily be removed in Photoshop, as I have done in the workshop. Well done, I look forward to more insect from your Crimean holiday.

Beautiful macro of this wonderfully marked wasp. The the tree branch makes a strong diagonal composition. Well done.

Wow, indeed. Great DOF and sharpness. Excelent makro photo. And interesting note.

Quelle magnifique makro Grzegorz. La profondeur de champs est excellente et le cadrage parfait. Bravo, Patty.

Wonderful photo. It shows that the battle dress in army was invented not by people but by the insects ;-)
