[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Purple Swamphen-Porphyrio porphyrio is shy, medium-large,black with blue underparts. It has a heavy bill and frontal plate both red.
The nest is a shallow platform of reeds, rushes and grasses built on a layer of reeds in dense reed beds.
Common in Eastern Australia.
I watched this male stick its head deep in the water amongst the reeds, tug violently and pull out a juicy reed from the lake's bottom.He did this a number of times and when he had collected three or four, he would then make his way to the nearby nest and deliver these to the female which was sitting there.

Excellent image ! Capturing the secret life of a bird like this. I love the moorhens we have here in the UK, very similar, and I would love to get a shot of them nest building. Usually though they are in and out of the reeds and iris beds so fast I never do manage anything good.

Lovely colors, good DOF, well composed and nice POV. Good sharpness and detail. Well done.

Hi Klaudio,
Good capture of this uncommon bird to mee!
It resembles a little to the moorhen, in the way the frontal red plate joins the beak.
It's very good the pose caught with the bird handling that green branches, as well as the composition made.

Hi Klaudio, great definition picked up on this Swamphen, especially given the dark colour found in this bird. I like very much the natural composition you have here, with the bird building it's nest.
