Winter lingers on here in Sweden and spring is likely to be late as thick ice now covers large areas of the Baltic. There’s also a steady blanket of clouds above so the cameras are having a good rest in the cupboard! Meanwhile I’ve sorted out my archives and found some pictures that I’ve forgotten about!

This is a species of moth of the family Noctuidae. It is only found in the southern part of Sweden where it is quite rare. The larva feed mainly on Pine but also on Spruce and Larch. It pupates on the ground where it overwinters.

It is a moth found in Europe except on the British Isles and the Iberian peninsula.
Its Swedish name is ‘Munkfly’.

I’ve posted another view in the WORKSHOP that shows the peculiar and very thick antennae.

Hi Ulla.
This species if really very attractive. Details are excellent. Colour palette of the shot, colouration and texture of the trunk are very suitable for it. Grey BG is nice canvas for the main subject too. BG is noise a bit but looks like texture. My kind regards and warm wishes.

Hi Ulla,
Very good photo of this rare Moth species, TFS!

A fine pair of "introductory" close ups Ulla, at least for me since this is quite a new moth for me! Those "ctenid" antennae were magnificent my friend.
TFS and cheers,
