Oystercatcher - Haematopus ostralegus

This large and colourful wader is one of my favourites and as we went across to the Baltic island of Öland today, I was lucky to see this my favourite again! It has recently returned from its winter migration down south and is a large wader in striking colours and with a loud voice so it is hard to miss. In Swedish it is called ‘Strandskata’ which means ‘Shore magpie’, as its plumage is reminiscence to that of a magpie and its breeding grounds are mainly along the sea shore.

As we were driving along there were two of them on a stony wet meadow right down the south of Öland and I managed to capture this one with the camera handheld from a distance of about 12 metres.

Hi Ulla
Perfect sharpness and colors
Pose is nice too
Imho the pov is too high, a lower pov woul bring a greater dynamic with less uniform bg

Hello Ulla,
Excellent photo of this beauty. Good sharpness, details and taken from a very good POV. Beautiful light and colours.

Ciao Ulla. Excellent light and colours with good details for the bird in action.

Ciao Ulla, great capture of lovely bird with fantastic red eye, wonderful natural colors, fine details and splendid sharpness, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

It is a handsome bird, no doubt, Ulla.
Once again, you have done a great job with your compact camera. Sometimes I wonder why some of us struggle so much with our heavy and cumbersome gear that goes with a DSLR and still can't get as good a picture as this one!
You have captured the Wader in a very natural position from a fine perspective.
Thanks and regards.

Hello Ulla,
Nature is in advance this year. We already have swallows back for two weeks. You cauhght this Oystercatcher in strong light which allows to see the black parts of the plumage with its fine details. All concentrated on looking for food, the bird didn't seem to take notice of you. Pleasant natural shot.
Kind regards

hello Ulla

Hi Ulla.
As usual I miss many your wonderful shots. Unfortunately, I do not know when I will have more free time. Exposure of the image and reproduction of all colour of the bird as well as the reproduction of all other details and features of the bird are simply stunning. I also welcome crisp sharpness of the whole scene. Well done and warm regards.

Hello Ulla.
This is a wonderful capture of the wader in fine sharpness and details. The plume is beautiful black and white with beaks and eye striking well in the frame. Excellent composition and thanks for sharing.
Have a great weekend.
