Eurasian Sparrowhawk - Accipiter nisus

The Eurasian Sparrowhawk is found throughout the temperate and subtropical parts of the Old World; while birds from the northern parts of the range migrate south for winter, their southern counterparts remain resident or make dispersive movements. Eurasian Sparrowhawks breed in suitable woodland of any type, with the nest, measuring up to 60 cm (2.0 ft) across, built using twigs in a tree. Four or five pale blue, brown-spotted eggs are laid; the success of the breeding attempt is dependent on the female maintaining a high weight while the male brings her food. The chicks hatch after 33 days and fledge after 24 to 28 days.
From Wikipedia

I spotted this female sitting on a stone wall on the isle of Oland. As we stopped the car she didn’t seem to take any notice. She was no doubt tired after having just arrived from her winter quarters down south. I managed to take a number of pictures before she finally took off and flew slowly away close to the ground. This was captured through the open car window from a distance of about 10 metres. It has been cropped and levels adjusted.

Bonjour Ulla,
A Sparrowhawk I had the feeling to know already..but never boring to look at him twice. Love the yellow of the eye echoing the color of the lichen on the stones. Very beautiful in this grey surrounding. Fine natural shot.
Thanks and kind regards

hello Ulla,
What an awesome image of this beautiful little Eurasian Sparrow Hawk. The focus is tac sharp, allowing us to view him in excellent detail and attractive natural colors. You choice of an F/5.7 aperture helped isolate him from his surroundings which is very eye appealing. Colors are well saturated yet natural. Exposure is perfect. Great work!!
