From Wekapedia
Porcupines are rodents with a coat of sharp spines, or quills, that defend and camouflage them from predators. They are indigenous to the Americas, southern Asia, and Africa. Porcupines are the third largest of the rodents, behind the capybara and the beaver. Most porcupines are about 25–36 in (63–91 cm) long, with an 8–10 in (20–25 cm) long tail. Weighing between 12–35 lb (5.4–16 kg), they are rounded, large and slow.

Hello Michel,
Great shot!! I believe this is the first time I ever saw a porcupine here on TN. Love the pose and the way you captured him right at lunch time.
I remember seeing quite a few of these guys in Pennsylvania as a young boy, I haven't seen one in the wild since.
I recall one night riding in a car with a friend as we were heading back to Ohio, one ran out from the side of the road and we grazed it. I told him that he had just hit a porcupine and he didn't believe me. I convinced him to pull over and sure enough he had a few quills sticking in his tire, but not deep enough to cause any air to leak out.
Great job!!

Salut Michel

a very difficult subject to photograph. good closeup in excellent angle. done a good job. tfs.

I would rather see a porcupine than a moose any o how! These fellas are so docile that you might have captured his face and even a glittering set of eyes! These are a survivalists delight (and potential salvation). Interesting species for TN ... TFS.

Hello Michel,
A fine capture of this Porcupine, closing his eyes against the sun while feeding.
The colours and sharpness are superb with the vegetation making a fine natural frame.
Thanks and enjoy your weekend,

hello Michel.
very nice picture of this special creature Porcupine. well captured image with good detail and colour.
best wishes,

great and cute, TFS Ori

Hello Michael,

Hope you are well and nice to know you friend. This is an excellent shot of porcupine in daytime, caught in the act of eating...rare indeed. You are lucky to have this shot, for these animals are nocturnal and I have a great number of them where I live when they come out from the nearby graveyard and attack the adjacent white clover fields. Thanks a lot for sharing a special photo, Peter is right....take care....warm regards/Abid

Hello Michel,
As usual a top quality image with superb colors. A very nice image with excellent details. Amazing clarity and perfect focus on this Porcupine. Very good WB and good low POV. Incredible sharp details.....
Thanks for sharing!

Hallo Michel
I can only but agree to what Peter has said and that this is indeed a special photo as it is true that this is not an animal that is seen on every page of the gallery. I just love the natural sunlight that brings out every little detail and colour in the scene to the best. Everything I see in front of me is such a pleasure to look at. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

Hello Michel
This is really special post and capture of pretty Tree Porcupine. I have seen only Hystrix indica in Turkiye. Although both of them related, their families different. We cant meet Erethizontidae species here. You greatly captured it, when it feeding. Great details and POV. Nicely composed and presented. Thanks for sharing my friend.
All the best
