Woodpecker drilling irrigation pipe
 |
|
[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
As I was walking along in the early evening I saw this woodpecker was making a hole in an irrigation pipe to get to the water. We saw another example after the damage was done, with water spurting out uncontrollably. Its apparently a frequent occurrence. I had never seen woodpeckers in Israel before - apparently they are quite common. I had no time to adjust exposure etc. or change to a longer lens, unfortunately.
Tom Conzemius has identified it so I updated this comment. |

Alan,
Most interesting biological behavior. Wonder if the WP is drinking from a hole otherwise present or if he, in fact, did peck a hole in it. Some water stains would suggest that the pipe had been leaking for sometime. TFS.
