A great photo, showing some space in front of the bird for it to fly into, sharp eye and a shallow DOF giving a good impression of movement. The background is neutral, showing off the bird well.
Maybe just adding a bit more saturation would help show off the orange head and neck.
The EXIF details show a speed of 1/3158 which looks a bit strange.

Dear Tom ,
You chose again an interesting shot, this time the take-off and I notice the crest is slightly opened. I have never worked out, when Hoopoes raise their crest ( I don't know if they raise or open the crest:-) and when they do not. In this case may be the feathers are raised for streamlining, facilitating the take off...

But they open, close the crest also when digging in the lawn... Why?!? Did you notice?

The pattern of the flight feathers is fascinating, visible thanks to your excellent point of view.

The sharp details show the bird's scruffy' neck :-)
