Wild Daffodil
Narcissus pseudonarcissus

It's fairly easy to distinguish the wild English form of the daffodil from the cultivars and non-native species - how? Well, the first obvious thing is that the tepals are quite pale compared to the corona (trumpet). The trumpet itself is also quite long and narrow when compared to most other forms. The flowers are bourne singly on a stem, and tend to face slightly downwards. The final clincher is that it tends to flower in woodland towards the end of the daffodil season!

In addition to the common name, daffodil - they're also known by a variety of other names: Lent Lily, Easter Lily, Daffys and of course the Daffo-down-dilly

Of the daffodil William Wordsworth wrote:
"I wandered lonely as a Cloud
That floats on high o'er Vales and Hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:-
A poet could not but be gay
In such a jocund company:
I gazed-and gazed-but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude,
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the Daffodils."

Note: Flowers and bulbs are poisonous, they contain the alkaloids narcitine and narcicysteine.

Nice shot, good POV to have the light hitting it that way. Nicely framed too. Good note, I've learned from that, and top marks for including that classic from William Wordsworth.

A really beautiful composition, Adrian.
I like the translucence in the white petals, and the color contrast between the white and yellow flower and the dark BG.

The lighting on this is very interesting, I love the light shining into the trumpet part. The information and poem are a nice compliment, thank you for the links also. I've always loved daffodils, so this is lovely to see, TFS.
